SO…..today is January 1st 2013!!! Time to make plans and set goals. Note I have not said New Year’s Resolutions …….I don’t think they really work (well for me they never worked). But if you set goals and regularly review these goals (at least every 3 months but preferably once a month), you will find that it is much easier to stay on track and achieve what you set out to accomplish in a particular calendar year or time frame.
NO, I have not switched roles and become a life coach! No…… just sharing that this is when I review 2012; update and reset goals for 2013 and start making changes or adjustments in order to achieve my goals.
2013 for me will have a lot to do with REALISTIC goal setting:getting back to swimming regularly, adding yoga to my exercise program; de-stressing; de-cluttering/simplifying & more……actually I am still working on the details so the goal setting is work in progress. Mine is not all about a UFO tally (which can be rather disheartening!) But is rather a much more holistic approach dealing with personal sewing; family matters; finances; health; work schedules & planning (which in my case also involves sewing…..Yey!!!) etc. Thanks is very much due to my friend, Karen, who got me started on this type of goal setting some years back when I was floundering & struggling personally. I have always been a planner but there is something very tangible about getting it down on paper (or a spread sheet) and holding yourself (and your friend) motivated & accountable to meet specific goals through the year. Do I meet all the goals I set? Heck no, of course not, but I can tell you that I am getting many more goals met now than when I just bumbled along & hoped vague plans in my head would work out.
One little tip I have learnt the hard way: be realistic as well as ruthless with your goal setting. For example: look carefully at all your UFO’s and decide which you WANT to finish and which you just NEED to GET RID OF! Not all UFO’s should or need to be completed. Take the stress off yourself and just give them away or drop them off in a bag at the Thrift store (do include bits & pieces which might be needed & a pattern or instructions if you have that). Then some poor, unfortunate soul who does not have any UFO’s can take on the task of completing yours?!
Once you have that all out of the way, you can concentrate on ADDING NEW PROJECTS FOR 2013………………..HERE is a project you might like to consider?
I made none of these wonderful, luxurious pillows. They were all made by Linda P, our EDUCATOR in TORONTO. The ELNA RUFFLER ATTACHMENT was used to make all the ruffles you see in the pics. Please see your local ELNA dealer today for further information about which ruffler attachment is the correct one for your sewing machine.
You might like to watch this spot (Friday 11th January) for another post about the ruffler attachment: How to use it & which ruffler is the one you need for your ELNA sewing machine model. ……..stay tuned!
