HAUS OF STITCHES in HUMBOLDT, SASKATCHEWAN (just over an hour outside of Saskatoon) recently held their OPEN HOUSE PARTY. I was there for the fun…….and thouroughly enjoyed myself too!
Wendy is the owner of HAUS OF STITCHES and is a proud ELNA dealer. The Open House each fall in Wendy’s store is a big happening: folk come from far & wide to see what is new & learn a bunch of new stuff about their passion: sewing & quilting.
This year, the Open House was a celebration of the 20th anniversary of Wendy’s store being in business – something to really celebrate, don’t you think? Wendy confided in me that even though she had invited many people and advertised well, she really had no idea how many folk would turn up for the festivities on Thursday 20th Sept. Well, she need not have been concerned – Some folk arrived as early as an hour before the first session was due to begin as they were determined to ensure they got a good seat! Some ladies drove into Humboldt from as far away as 4 hours driving time – now that is enthusiasm with a capital E!!
Wendy had arranged informative topics throughout the day such as Trapunto Quilting by Machine; Aplique made easy; Get the most from your machine Feet; Quilting tips & tricks, etc. I presented at about 6 of the 8 sessions sharing with Wendy and another of Wendy’s long standing and much loved teachers: Chi-Chi Raduik from Moose Jaw.
I showed samples, did machine demo’s, played video clips; used Powerpoint presentations – which was a good thing as there were more than 90 people at some of the sessions! We ran out of chairs and there was standing room only at the back of the room.
What a wonderful response from the customers………THANK YOU to all of you who came to support Wendy and celebrate her 20 year achievement. I am sure you enjoyed the 20% discounts as well as the cake and learning that took place throughout the day.
HOPE TO SEE YOU NEXT YEAR AT Wendy’s SASKATCHEWAN STITCHES CONFERENCE 2013 in Muenster, SK from 30th May – 9th June 2013 and/or Open house in FALL 2013. Check out the website for more information. I don’t think the info about the 2013 Conference is posted yet as I know Wendy is currently working on those details but keep checking in – you REALLY don’t want to miss out on this opportunity. Folk come from all over Canada and even from the US. Wendy brings in top teachers in their various fields from quilting to bra making to knitting and much, much more. I have attended every year for the last 4 years and fully intend to be there for the 5th time next year! I just love the setting at St Peter’s Abbey in Muenster (about 15 minutes away from Humboldt); I totally enjoy sharing my love of sewing & quilting and assisting people with their Elna machines…and, not to forget: all the fun we have together as a bunch of folk who all LOVE TO SEW.
